Paddington Interior Designer - Bespoke Terrace Renovations
There is nowhere quite like Paddington. Declared an Urban Conservation Area in 1974 and home to some of the most celebrated Victorian terrace streetscapes in Australia, it is a suburb where architectural history is lived in every day, from the ornate cast-iron lacework balconies and symmetrical sandstone facades, to the lush jacaranda canopy that colours its streets each spring. Wilbur Jones brings a considered, deeply respectful approach to interior design in Paddington, one that treats heritage not as a constraint but as the very source of each home's character and value.
For Paddington homeowners seeking a high-end interior designer who understands the specific demands of terrace renovation, light, flow, heritage compliance and the desire for contemporary luxury within a period shell, our studio delivers results that feel both historically grounded and entirely of the present.

Our Paddington Expertise
Terraces in Paddington were built primarily between the 1870s and the 1890s during the colonial boom period, and they reflect that era's ambitions: three-metre ceilings, decorative plasterwork, original fireplaces, and facades of remarkable character. Yet these same homes, nearly all of which were subject to Woollahra Council's heritage conservation controls, were designed for a way of life very different from our own. Dark rear kitchens, segmented rooms with little connection to outdoor space, and narrow plans that admit precious little natural light are the recurring challenges we encounter and resolve for our Paddington clients.
Our expertise lies in threading the needle between heritage authenticity and contemporary liveability. We have a thorough understanding of what is and is not permissible within Paddington's conservation precincts, and we work proactively with heritage considerations rather than against them. The result is always an interior where the home's original bones are celebrated, and where every contemporary addition feels as though it was always meant to be there.
Liberty, Kellyville
While Paddington's terrace homes present their own specific context, our Liberty project demonstrates the spatial thinking and sensitivity to an existing home's character that defines our approach to all renovation work. Designed for a mature family, the project centred on a kitchen that had become disconnected from the life of the home, a formal dining room sat adjacent, underused and isolated.
Our solution was to dissolve the boundary between the two spaces entirely, absorbing the dining room into an expanded, open kitchen that became the true heart of the house. New doors were introduced to draw natural sunlight deep into the interior, refreshed flooring created visual continuity, and a soft, neutral material palette built warmth and texture without imposing on the home's existing character. The result is a calm, highly functional family space, and precisely the kind of thoughtful spatial resolution we bring to every Paddington terrace we work on.
We cannot say enough wonderful things about Emma and the amazing work she did on our house renovations. From the very beginning, she was incredibly helpful—not only in making our home look absolutely incredible from an aesthetic perspective, but also in thoughtfully planning and mapping out all of the structural changes and design for the house itself… including giving us an Island bench in our kitchen which we didn’t think we had the space for! Her upbeat, positive energy made the entire process so enjoyable, and we felt like we could always come to her with any question. Every time we reached out for advice or had a concern, Emma responded promptly and was so generous with her expertise. We truly appreciate her skill, creativity, and professionalism, and we will continue to recommend her to anyone looking for an interior designer who is both talented and a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Emma!

FAQs
Most properties in Paddington fall within Woollahra Council's heritage conservation area, which means that changes to external elements, facades, rooflines, front gardens and street-visible features are tightly regulated. Internal works are generally more flexible, but decisions about which walls can be removed, how rear extensions can be configured, and how new additions must relate to the existing fabric all require careful navigation. We work with heritage requirements from the outset, ensuring our designs are both compliant and creative.
